The best time to train is the time you'll actually show up for — week after week. Research suggests strength and performance may be slightly better later in the day for many people, but the difference is small compared with the effect of simply training consistently.
Morning workouts
Pros
- Done before the day can get in the way.
- Easier to build a fixed routine.
- Often a calmer gym floor in the very early hours.
Cons
- Body feels stiff — you'll need a longer warm-up.
- Late nights make 5:30 AM hard.
Tips: lay out your clothes the night before, have a banana or a small snack 30 minutes before training, and warm up for 8–10 minutes.
Evening workouts
Pros
- You're fully awake and usually stronger.
- A great way to release office stress.
Cons
- Meetings, traffic and plans can push the session out.
- Training very late can make it harder for some people to fall asleep.
Tips: pack your gym bag in the morning, go straight from work rather than going home first, and finish intense training an hour or two before bed.
How to choose
Ask yourself three questions:
- Which slot is least likely to be cancelled by work or family?
- When do I have the most energy?
- Which slot can I keep for the next 3 months?
Pick that slot and treat it like a meeting.
