About this book
Some people gain weight just by looking at food. Others eat "all day" and stay thin. Most who try to bulk either eat too little to grow or so much that they spend the next six months dieting off the fat.
This book teaches the lean bulk: a controlled calorie surplus, enough protein, and training designed to turn extra energy into muscle rather than belly fat. You'll learn how to set your surplus, track progress, eat more without feeling stuffed, build muscle on vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian food, and when to stop bulking.
For hardgainers, skinny-fat beginners and experienced lifters ready to grow.

What a Lean Bulk Is
A "bulk" is a period of deliberately eating more energy than you burn to support muscle growth. A lean bulk keeps the surplus small and controlled, so that a high proportion of the weight gained is muscle rather than fat.
Why not just eat everything?
Old-school "dirty bulking" — eating huge amounts of anything — does produce weight gain. But muscle can only grow so fast. Beyond a modest surplus, extra energy mostly becomes fat. The result: a long, unpleasant diet afterwards, and often more fat than muscle gained.
Why not stay at maintenance?
Beginners and people returning to training can build muscle at maintenance or even in a small deficit ("recomposition"). But for most people past the first year of training, a modest surplus produces faster, more reliable muscle gain.
Muscle grows slowly. Your surplus should match that pace — not your appetite.
Who Should Bulk
Good candidates
• Lean to moderately lean individuals who want more muscle.
• "Hardgainers" who struggle to gain any weight.
• Lifters who have trained consistently and want to keep progressing.
