About this book
Most of modern life is fast: fast work, fast food, fast workouts. Restorative and Yin yoga do the opposite — long, quiet holds that let the body and nervous system settle.
This book explains how the two styles differ, how to use props to make every pose comfortable, and how to build sessions for recovery, stress, sleep and flexibility. It includes 30 poses with set-up instructions, eight complete sequences, guidance for home practice, and safety notes for hypermobility, injury and pregnancy.
For anyone who needs to slow down — especially those who think they can't.

Chapter 1
Slow Yoga
In a world that rewards speed and intensity, slowing down can feel unproductive. Yet rest and recovery are when the body adapts and the mind settles.
Two slow styles
Restorative yoga asks, "How comfortable can I be?" Yin asks, "Can I stay with mild discomfort, calmly?"
Why It Helps
Possible benefits
• Stress reduction: long, supported poses with slow breathing can shift the nervous system toward rest.
• Sleep: gentle evening practice may help you wind down.
• Recovery: a low-intensity complement to hard training.
• Flexibility: Yin's longer holds may improve range of motion over time.
• Mindfulness: stillness gives practice in observing sensations and thoughts.
Moderate evidence: Research specifically on restorative and Yin yoga is limited, but studies on gentle yoga and relaxation practices show improvements in perceived stress, sleep quality and wellbeing for many participants.
What the science on "fascia" can and can't say
Yin is often described as targeting fascia and connective tissue. Connective tissue does respond to loading over time, but specific claims — such as "rehydrating fascia" or "releasing stored emotions" — go beyond current evidence. The practice can be valuable without those claims.
The book continues for 61 pages across 25 chapters.
