Breast self-awareness, clinical exam and symptom-first evaluation remain the practical Indian route; population mammography programmes are still early.

Screening aims to find disease in people without symptoms. For cervical cancer, visual and cytology screening through government cancer centres is expanding; the point is a scheduled, repeatable pathway, not a one-time test.
For breast cancer in average-risk women without symptoms, clinical breast examination is a widely supported step; routine mammography from 40 is not yet standard national practice everywhere. Discuss your own risk — family history, BRCA, density — with a doctor.
Guidelines differ across programmes; this explainer does not invent a specific national protocol or survival statistic.
