About this book
Anxiety lies. It tells you the worst will happen, that you can't cope, and that worrying will keep you safe. Mindfulness doesn't argue with those thoughts — it changes your relationship with them.
This book explains how anxiety works in the body and mind, and teaches evidence-based mindfulness skills: grounding, breath anchors, labelling thoughts, making room for difficult feelings, worry time, self-compassion and values-based action. It's designed to complement professional care, with clear guidance on when and how to seek help in India.
For anyone whose mind won't switch off.
Educational guide. It supports — never replaces — care from your doctor, and contains no doses, cycles or sources.

Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is a normal human emotion — the body's alarm system, designed to protect us from danger. It becomes a problem when the alarm goes off too often, too loudly, or when there's no real threat.
The body's alarm
When the brain perceives threat, the sympathetic nervous system activates:
Anxiety symptoms are uncomfortable but not dangerous. Your body is trying to protect you — it's just misjudging the threat.
Common anxiety conditions
Only a qualified professional can diagnose these conditions.
When to Get Help
Seek urgent help if you have thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life, or if anxiety is so severe you can't function. Call Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, 24×7, India), 112 for emergencies, or go to the nearest emergency department.
See a doctor or mental health professional if
• Anxiety interferes with work, study, relationships or daily life.
• You avoid places or situations because of anxiety.
• You experience panic attacks.
• You use alcohol, drugs or other behaviours to cope.
• Symptoms have lasted several weeks.
• You also have low mood or depression.
