About this book
Few medicines have changed the conversation about weight as quickly as GLP-1 drugs. Semaglutide and tirzepatide have produced weight loss in clinical trials that once seemed possible only with surgery — and they are now in demand worldwide, including in India.
This guide explains how these medicines work, what trials show, who they're for, common and serious side effects, why muscle loss matters, how to train and eat while taking them, what happens when you stop, and how to avoid counterfeits and misinformation. It's written for patients, families and fitness professionals who want clear, balanced information.
A practical companion for one of the biggest changes in modern medicine.
Educational guide. It supports — never replaces — care from your doctor, and contains no doses, cycles or sources.

Chapter 1
What Are GLP-1 Medicines?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone released by your gut after eating. It helps regulate blood sugar and appetite.
GLP-1 receptor agonists are medicines that mimic GLP-1 but last much longer in the body. Newer medicines also act on other hormone receptors.
Brand names, approved uses and availability vary by country and change over time. In India, several of these medicines are available by prescription, and new versions — including generics as patents expire — are expected to change prices and access.
These are powerful, effective medicines. They're also prescription drugs with real side effects. Both things are true.
How They Work
Main effects
"Food noise"
Many patients describe a reduction in constant thoughts about food. Research is exploring how these medicines affect brain reward pathways.
Weight loss comes from eating less
GLP-1 medicines don't "melt fat" directly. They help people eat less by reducing appetite — so a calorie deficit still drives weight loss.
