About this book
A single cast-iron ball with a handle can build strength, power, endurance and grip — in a space the size of a yoga mat, in sessions as short as twenty minutes.
This book teaches kettlebell training from the ground up: choosing the right bell, the hip hinge, the swing, the goblet squat, the Turkish get-up, the clean, the press and the snatch, with clear cues, common faults and fixes. It includes three complete 12-week programmes, conditioning finishers, and guidance for women, older lifters and people with back pain.
For beginners who want one tool that does almost everything, and gym-goers who want to add power and resilience.

Chapter 1
Why Kettlebells?
Kettlebells have been used for centuries — Russian market traders famously used them as counterweights and then as competition weights. Today they're used by athletes, military units, physiotherapists and everyday gym-goers.
What makes them different
A dumbbell's weight sits in your hand. A kettlebell's centre of mass sits below and away from the handle. That offset changes everything:
• Swinging movements become possible and safe, teaching powerful hip extension.
• Grip and forearms work harder, especially in ballistic lifts.
• The rack position lets you hold the bell on your forearm for presses, squats and carries.
• Transitions between exercises are fast, so strength and conditioning blend together.
What kettlebells develop
Moderate evidence: Research shows kettlebell training can improve strength, power and aerobic fitness, with effects broadly similar to other resistance and interval training — it's not magic, but it's very efficient.
The kettlebell doesn't replace a barbell for maximal strength. It complements one — and for many people training at home, it's the single best investment.
