About this book
You sit down to work. Forty minutes later you've checked your phone eleven times, opened six tabs, answered three messages — and done nothing that matters.
This book treats attention as a trainable skill. Drawing on cognitive psychology and meditation, it explains why focus is so hard today and gives you a practical system: attention meditation, deep-work blocks, digital boundaries, environment design, energy management and recovery. It includes a 30-day focus programme with daily exercises and trackers.
For professionals, students and anyone who wants their mind back.

Chapter 1
The Attention Crisis
Attention has become one of the scarcest resources in modern life.
The forces against focus
The cost of switching
Each time you switch tasks, your brain needs time to reorient. Research by Gloria Mark and others suggests it can take many minutes to fully return to a complex task after an interruption. Some attention lingers on the previous task ("attention residue").
You don't have an attention problem. You have an environment problem, a habit problem — and an untrained attention muscle.
How Attention Works
Types of attention
The "spotlight" of attention
Attention works like a spotlight: what's in the beam is processed deeply; what's outside fades. Distractions pull the spotlight away.
Bottom-up vs top-down
• Bottom-up: attention captured by stimuli (a ping, movement, your name).
• Top-down: attention directed by your goals.
Focus training strengthens top-down control and reduces bottom-up capture.
The mind-wandering default
Studies (for example, Killingsworth and Gilbert, 2010) suggest people's minds wander for nearly half their waking hours — and mind-wandering is associated with lower happiness in the moment.
The book continues for 55 pages across 21 chapters.
